Founder of Emeyu, Kristiane Blomqvist, has always been fascinated by tea. Fine loose teas from around the world were family staples and the large Chinese porcelain jar that her grandmother used for storing tea during the 2nd World War is one of her most coveted items. Kristiane was first introduced to green teas in the early Eighties through her father’s business activities, which brought her to China and Japan. However, it took a while before Kristiane decided to create a business around her passion. First, she spent almost a decade building global brands as a consultant in Copenhagen, London, Chicago and New York. During a sabbatical between New York and London, Kristiane revisited Asia. It was during this time that her passion for tea was resurrected and she fully appreciated the impact of tea on our lives. Subsequently, Kristiane immersed herself into the study of tea, rituals, flavourings and scents. It is this experience, of taking time to learn the ancient secrets of tea and appreciate its subtle tastes and aromas that directly lead to the birth of Emeyu. Well aware of the impact of living in a frenzied cosmopolitan environment, Kristiane wanted to create a brand that would encourage thoughtfulness, focus and balance, and channel some of the ancient wisdom and healing powers of tea. “I wanted to create a beautiful product that would reclaim the long and rich spiritual history of tea. Here the philosophy of tea is neglected – almost reduced to pouring boiling hot water over dust in a bag! In China, the tea ceremony has such beauty and style promoting both taste and health and I felt it was important to introduce a bit of that culture to the UK. We all live such busy lives, and taking a few moments to rebalance and refocus over a cup of tea is a great antidote to the stresses and strains of daily life.” Kristiane now lives in London and is constantly on the look-out for new teas that suit the Emeyu experience. She finds inspiration for her special blends when travelling and shopping, and some were even created during yoga practice.
